These courses will be offered for the general public, and employees.
Upon completion of this class students will be given American Red Cross certifications in
Lifeguarding, and/or CPR, AED, and First aid, lasting two years.
Students will also be given employment opportunities at the YMCA with training fees waived.

Lifeguarding Blended Learning
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. This course is a blended learning course. There will be a 7-hour online portion that must be completed before the first in-person class.
Adults are encouraged to register. Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
It is required that students attend all in-person class periods. There will be 1 written test and 2 skill tests based off of both the online content and the in-person class sessions.
Course Prerequisites:
Participants must be able to:
1. Swim 150 yards front crawl and/or breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes without using arms, finish the swim sequence with another 50-yard swim. (may use goggles)
2. Swim from the shallow end to the deep end, retrieve a brick from the bottom of the
pool, and swim back to the shallow end in 1 minute and 40 seconds or less (without
goggles).
Materials Needed for In-Person Classes:
● Lifeguard Manual (provided)
● CPR Mask (provided)
● Swimsuit (one that fits comfortably and will not shift while swimming)
● Towel
● Goggles
● Notebook
● Writing Utensil
● Snacks/Water
● Team Work Skills
● Good attitude
